Family Tree Maps – Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of Family Tree Maps (“we,” “our,” “us,” or “the Service”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

1. Intellectual Property
All content provided by Family Tree Maps, including but not limited to maps, data, designs, graphics, layouts, software, and text, is the exclusive property of Family Tree Maps and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.You are granted a limited, non-exclusive license to view and use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, reverse engineer, scrape, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our express written permission.

You may not use the Service or its data to build, train, or enhance any competing product or service.

All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

2. Data Sources and Copyright
The land parcel data used in this application is derived from historical land patents maintained by the General Land Office Records, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Department of the Interior. These records are part of the public domain and freely accessible at https://glorecords.blm.gov/default.aspx, which in many cases also provides scans of the original patent documents.While the source data is public, the compilation, interpretation, and visualization of these records into map form are proprietary works.

All maps and the map application are copyright © Ancestor Maps LLC.

Derivative Works: You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the compiled maps or application without written permission.

Attribution: Any permitted use must credit Family Tree Maps as the source.

3. Available States

Family Tree Maps currently provides data and maps for the following U.S. states:
Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida.

Access to states outside this list is not included and may not be available in the future.

We make no guarantee that additional states will be added or that current coverage will remain unchanged.

Users are responsible for confirming the availability of their state of interest before purchasing or using the Service.Some counties within these states may not be available due to patents not existing within the county.

4. Unofficial Records

Family Tree Maps provides historical and genealogical data for research and educational purposes only.

Not Legal Proof:
The maps and information provided are unofficial records and cannot be used as legal evidence of land ownership, boundaries, or property claims.

No Legal Claims: Users agree not to submit, present, or rely upon Family Tree Maps data in any court, government agency, or legal proceeding.

Verification Required: Users are responsible for verifying all information with official government and archival sources.

5. Accuracy Disclaimer

We strive to ensure accuracy in our data and mapping, but historical records can contain errors and, like any project involving both people and computers, mistakes are always possible.As-Is Basis: The Service and all data are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind.

Interpretation Warning: Historical patents may not align exactly with modern parcels or survey systems and require careful interpretation.

User Responsibility: You agree to independently verify any information before relying on it for genealogy, research, or decision-making.

Entertainment Use: This data is provided for genealogical research and entertainment purposes only and is not intended for legal claims, land title verification, or survey use.

Third-Party Data: Some content may include or reference data from external sources; we are not responsible for errors or omissions in third-party data.

Data Updates: We reserve the right to modify or remove data as errors are discovered or updates become available, without obligation to notify users.

6. Usage Limits and Anti-Scraping

We reserve the right to impose daily or session-based limits on the number of counties, parcels, or records that can be accessed by a single user account.

Automated access, including scraping, bots, or mass downloading tools, is strictly prohibited.

Accounts showing suspicious activity, including large-scale data harvesting, may be suspended or terminated without notice.

Any attempt to bypass technical restrictions or usage limits is a violation of these Terms.

7. User Conduct

By using the Service, you agree not to:Share login credentials or allow others to access your account.

Use the Service or its data to create competing products or services.

Circumvent usage restrictions or security measures we put in place.

Engage in any activity that disrupts the operation or integrity of the Service.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for any violation of these Terms.

Eligibility:
The Service is intended for users aged 18 and older. Users under 18 may only use the Service with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Subscriptions and Payments (if applicable)Billing:
Subscriptions are billed in advance on a recurring basis unless otherwise stated.

Refunds: All payments are non-refundable unless required by law.

Cancellations: You may cancel your subscription at any time; access will continue until the end of the paid term.

No Guarantee of Availability: Purchasing a subscription does not guarantee that specific states or features will be available in the future.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law: Family Tree Maps shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from use of the Service.

We are not responsible for losses or disputes arising from reliance on our maps or data.

Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the Service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Family Tree Maps and its affiliates from any claims, damages, liabilities, or expenses arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Privacy

12. Termination

These Terms shall be governed by and construed under the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Harrison County, Indiana. We may require binding arbitration as an alternative to litigation.

We may modify these Terms at any time. Updates will be posted on this page with the effective date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
